Description

Savvy promoter William Killingsworth waited for the boom after the 1905 Lewis and Clark Exposition to promote his new Walnut Park development and its streetcar service to downtown every 6 minutes. He promised his middle class buyers it would soon become the Brooklyn of the West, and today it is one of Portland’s most cherished streetcar era neighborhoods.

On this tour you'll see:

- Ground-breaking Craftsman Style homes by a Swedish architect whose ideas spread all over Portland

- A masterpiece showcase for the Miracle Pressed Stone Company, by one of Portland’s most flamboyant and controversial architects

- A late Prairie School home renovated by owner architects whose design has been featured in Dwell Magazine

- A gracious mansion saved from the wrecking ball by determined neighbors at a cost of over $1 million!

- The home of the first Black-owned mortuary in Oregon, whose owner was a leader in local civil rights organizations

Space is limited. Pre-Registration is Required.
