Description

The Lost Worlds of the Holladay Addition traces how the 230-block plat evolved from the original
landscape of forests and deep ravines into farms and woodlots and transformed into a residential
district similar to nearby Irvington. 20th-century changes brought on by the streetcar, automobile, largescale
retail, and government complexes transformed the neighborhood almost beyond recognition. This
program explores the history of an area often overlooked and reveals fascinating remnants of its earlier
incarnations hidden in plain sight.

Dan Haneckow writes and speaks on Pacific Northwest history, architecture, and transportation. He is
the author of Portland Then and Now (Pavilion Books, 2017) and is currently working on Let's Drive a
Spike: Ben Holladay and the Oregon and California Railroad.
